The crossover is the whole story.
A Friday morning at the Wiesn is genuinely relaxed. You can pick the tent you want rather than the one that will take you. By late afternoon the locals arrive from work and the weekend crowd lands, and the door decision stops being yours.
The decision before you leave your hotel
Decide whether Friday is your lunch or your night. For a lunch table the window is 10:00 to 10:30. For the evening, be seated by 15:00 and stay. Arriving fresh at seven on a Friday night without a reservation is the plan that leaves you outside.
What to do with that decision
Use the morning if you can.
Friday before noon is one of the better walk-in windows of the second week, and it costs you nothing but an early start.
If you want the Friday night, get there long before it.
The tents clear reserved tables in the late afternoon for the evening block. That is the moment walk-ins lose a seat and the doors tend to close.
Know that Saturday is worse.
If Friday feels tight, the 26th is the middle Saturday. Moving your tent plan earlier in the week is the cheapest fix there is.
