The 2nd is the last normal day of the festival.

Doors open at 10:00 and the day still works like a Friday. What makes it matter is the day after it: October 3 is a Saturday and a public holiday, and the 2nd is the last date before the run closes out.

If your trip covers both, this is the day for the tents.

A bridge day carries the people arriving early for the holiday weekend, so it is fuller than a Tuesday, but it is still a Friday. You can walk in at lunch. The following day you cannot, and that difference is larger than anything else on your calendar.

The decision before you leave your hotel

Give the 2nd the tent visit and keep the 3rd for the city. If your trip includes both dates, this is the one where walking in works. Spending the 2nd resting for the 3rd is the plan that wastes the better of the two days.

What to do with that decision

01

Take the lunch window.

The Friday window for a lunch table is 10:00 to 10:30, and for the evening you want to be seated by 15:00.

02

Do not save yourself for the 3rd.

October 3 is a Saturday and German Unity Day at once. It is the heaviest date of the sixteen, not a bigger version of the 2nd.

03

Plan the night before the holiday.

The tents stop serving at 22:30 and close at 23:30 every night. Two tents, Käfer Wiesn-Schänke and Kuffler's Weinzelt, run until 1:00.

These are planning rules, not live occupancy data. Tent access changes during the day; no guide can promise entry.
